TX–Southern Newspapers Acquires Matagorda, TX Advocate
Southern Newspapers Inc., owner of The Bay City Tribune, has purchased the Matagorda Advocate from the Victoria Advocate.Southern Newspapers, Inc., was represented by Rollie Hyde of W. B. Grimes and Company. Southern Newspapers owns 11 community newspapers in Texas, three in Alabama and one in Georgia. The Bay City Tribune will combine the best features of the Matagorda Advocate with its own and publish under the Tribune name, said Angie Pagel, publisher of The Bay City Tribune.
“Our staff welcomes this opportunity to expand our service in Matagorda County, and I hope readers and advertisers will feel free to call me with questions or suggestions on how our company can provide even better service in the future. Our company believes that newspapers should focus on serving their communities first and always, and we intend to do just that,” said Pagel.
The Tribune will continue to publish on Sunday and Wednesday; there will be no Thursday newspaper.
