Old Forge, NY: Adirondack Express Sold
The Adirondack Express, a weekly newspaper covering this Adirondack Mountains resort town in Herkimer County, has been sold to the company which owns and publishes The Recorder, a 10,000 circulation daily newspaper in Amsterdam, one of the few remaining independently owned daily newspapers in New York State. James Gies, 67, publisher and owner of the Adirondack Express, who bought the Adirondack Express in 1990 after 18 years as assistant to Syracuse University Chancellor Melvin Eggers, said the sale would strengthen the newspaper¹s future. The Recorder also owns the weekly Hamilton County News in nearby Speculator.
