Maine weekly sold

The 114-year old Penobscot Times has been sold by Publisher David Wollstadt to Kirkland Newspapers, Inc. of Durham, NC, Wollstadt has announced. Wollstadt bought the 4,000 circulation Times in 1974 from Barbara McKernan, mother of John Rettie McKernan, Jr., who was a two-term governor of Maine and former Maine and U.S. Representative. Wollstadt published the historic Penobscot Times for the last 28 years to serve the area surrounding Old Town and Orono.
