Changing Of The Guard in Fredericksburg, TX
Sale of the Fredericksburg, TX Standard-Radio Post to Moser Community Media (MCM) of Brenham was announced this week by Terry Collier, president of Fredericksburg Publishing Company, Inc. With the ownership change, Collier also announced his retirement as publisher of the Standard-Radio Post as well as that of his wife, Cathy Collier, as editor. Rollie Hyde, Grimes, McGovern & Associates, represented the Collier’s in the transaction. Meanwhile, MCM president Jim Moser has named Ken Esten Cooke, a fourth-generation community newspaperman and Rockdale native, as editor-publisher. “I am honored to have the opportunity to run what is one of the top community newspapers in the state, and lead this experienced staff that is key to its success,” Cooke said. “We have always admired what the Colliers and their predecessors have built in this community, and we will do our best to continue the tradition of quality and service to Fredericksburg and Gillespie County.” Collier, who with Keith Whited has owned Collier-Whited Holding Company — the Fredericksburg Publishing Company’s majority owner — steps down after almost 39 years at the Standard-Radio Post, including nine as publisher, 23 as editor and seven as news editor. “Of all the prospective newspaper owners in Texas, Jim Moser has been — from the start — our top choice, and we are extremely grateful to place the Standard-Radio Post into his capable hands,” Collier said. “On top of that, I can’t think of anyone else that I would rather see guiding this award-winning publication on a day-to-day basis than Ken Esten Cooke.”
