Buskirk Acquires Valley Roadrunner, CA
Eric Buskirk, owner of the Valley Chronicle, Hemet, CA, the Henderson Press, Henderson, NV and Verican, Inc., a newspaper technology company, has purchased the Valley Roadrunner, Valley Center, CA from Shirley and Dale Good. The sale was effective November 29.
“I am very excited about Eric and his new ideas involving technology for community newspapers. I know he will do well in this wonderful community,” Shirley Good said.
The Goods are retiring and had owned the 38-year-old award-winning weekly newspaper since 1993.
Buskirk became involved in the newspaper industry 12 years ago when he founded Verican, Inc., an international newspaper technology firm.
He entered the newspaper publishing business in 2009 when he started the weekly Henderson Press. He purchased Hemet’s weekly Valley Chronicle in 2011 just before it was scheduled to cease publication.
Buskirk said he believes in community newspapers and sees technology as a way to give weekly newspapers a financial edge in a tough economy.
Jay Harn, senior associate, W.B. Grimes & Co. and Robert Myers Realty represented Buskirk in the transaction. Terms were not disclosed.
Valley Center is an unincorporated community located approximately 35 miles northeast of San Diego.
